Jo & Connie D Florida
So, why did we choose FMNR? My wife, Jo and I, lived in Fort Lauderdale and Vero Beach Florida for 15 years. After retiring as an IT executive in the semiconductor industry for IBM and National Semiconductor we bought a place in Lake Tahoe. We loved the life style and the mountains, but Jo developed leg problems and couldn’t take advantage of hiking. So we moved to Florida, still longing for a mountain lifestyle. We finally decided to escape the traffic, increasing problems and look for a quieter life. We had this set of criteria: a view lot, close to a larger city with a college/university, close medical facilities and preferably a state with no state income tax. We chose to look at North GA, Eastern TN, Western South Carolina and Western North Carolina, since these are the mountains in the South East. Also these would move us closer to 3 of our 4 kids and their families.
We went on the internet and decided to start looking in TN and found mountain developments in Ocoee, Jasper and Fredonia. We had brochures for all three areas and decided to visit all three. We liked the idea of Ocoee with is nearness to the outdoor activities but researching further we found there were legal problems. Further there were some promises of things to come. We then looked at Jasper and it was also appealing but was promising things to come not showing what was existing. Also their prices were high. We scheduled a visit to FMNR with Tim Coleman and we had picked a lot (Bluff View B3) that looked promising from the brochures. We spent an afternoon looking at all the view lot possibilities. Tim showed us a number of lots and ironically showed us B3 as the last one. We considered this another sign of ‘meant to be’. We were super impressed with the view, the many trails that Tim highlighted, the clubhouse and friendliness of everyone we came in contact with. We visited with Jo’s brother and his wife and all 4 of us confirmed lot B3 as our first choice. Even though it was more than we wanted to spend we decided to do it anyway. We didn’t look any further even though some of our friends encouraged us to look at the developments they lived in from other states.
We don’t know anyone in the greater Chattanooga area, especially Dunlap. Our kids think we are nuts to do this at this stage of our lives, but we decided to make this home a special place for all our family to visit. So far, this has worked out amazingly well and is much better than we expected.
Jeff & Stacy Hosman Florida
As we walked out onto Lot # 287, we were “wowed” by this gorgeous 2.8 acres that has a nice slope to it with various hardwood trees scattered across the property. We closed on the property before the New Year and hope to be building our second home up there soon.
Al & Radeene Spessard Florida
Well it all started in August 2010, two months before my husband Alan and I were to attend his nephews wedding in Pittsburgh. Alan said, “if you ever thought about a second home, now would be the time.” Dunlap, Tennessee was a dart in the map and we liked the tax situation in Tennessee but did not want to get too far north into the cold. As we left the family at an airport in Pittsburgh we let our journey begin. Alan is from West Virginia so we drove thru there as fast as I could before he got any ideas. I already had a brief conversation with Land In Tennessee so we set up a tour for the next day. We checked into the Mountain Inn in Dunlap and was then invited to stay at the lodge the following night. We spent the day looking at the property at Fredonia Mountain Nature Resort and I fell in love with lot #300. We came home with the intent to make an offer at the first of the year for tax purposes but my dream lot sold to a couple from Vero Beach the first part of December. After i cried for a couple of days, Alan said why don't you and Debby(our daughter) and Hunter (grandson) go skiing at Ober and go back up to the mountain. We returned to FMNR and met current owners, Mike and Mo Fuller and attended a wonderful holiday party. I came home with two lots in mind but one in particular, #276!!!!! Alan and I went back up to the mountain in the spring; now covering three out of four seasons. May I add that with every trip back to FMNR, we fell in love with it more and more. We purchased two lots in July, 2011 at Fredonia Mountain Nature Resort!! With family still in South Florida we are not quite ready to make the move but thoughts and dreams of the resort are with me every day. I can't wait!!! We have enjoyed everyone we have met connected with this deal and are looking forward to our next trip to the mountain.
Sandy & Judie Schmidt moved from Houston, Texas
The reasons are far too many to list but when we decided it was time to retire and leave Houston, Texas we went east instead of west ... and found Fredonia Mountain Nature Resort. We were looking for a small rural community that's not too far away from civilization, a low cost of living and mild weather. The best surprise was how easy it was to meet so many others who share the same commitment to the quality of life that is enjoyed by all of us at FMNR ... our new friends and neighbors. We love living up here on the mountain!
David & Linda Phillips Baton Rouge, Louisiana
We were searching the net for land in east Tennessee when we hit on the www.LandinTennessee.com site. Our basic criteria was to live in Tennessee! David was originally from Memphis and wanted to retire to a place with seasons...leaves changing, cool winters, topography that had a variation from general flatness. Our first trip to FMNR was combined with a scouting trip in the Knoxville/Wears Valley area. We flew from Baton Rouge, LA to Knoxville and drove to Dunlap. We were blown away by the development. The website did not do justice to the fantastic views, the rock outcroppings and the wildlife. During our first visit we saw a flock of wild turkeys and multiple sightings of deer. We looked at a variety of lots - bluff lots with fantastic views, rocky, tree covered acreage and lots adjacent to natural streams. We returned to the Knoxville area, but nothing could compare to what we had seen on Fredonia Mountain. After comparing the two we decided that we wanted to make FMNR our future home. Our 5 1/2 acres is a short walk from Mother's Bridge and Park. It is a very peaceful area. Since that time we have met and visited with our neighbors and it has made us even more sure that we chose the right community. Yes, in FMNR you are surrounded by beautiful scenery, trails, lakes and wildlife, but the community of home-owners is the real attraction. Even though we are a couple of years from permanently relocating, we already feel like we are a part of the community because of the communication with our wonderful neighbors and the open and frequent communications from the Developers and the Home Owner Association.
